Last Friday Bears guard Ja’Tyre Carter surprised special education teacher Brian Peterson at Naperville North High School as a Bears Classroom Legends recipient.

Peterson is a Special Education teacher with extensive knowledge of curriculum and student learning, particularly in Chemistry. He supports and assists students with needs, serves on the Chemistry professional learning community and takes on leadership roles both inside and outside of the classroom, including coaching for the Naperville North football program and managing the weight room for students.

“Naperville North’s students, faculty and community are lucky to have Brian Peterson as a teacher, coach and colleague,” said Dean of Students Jim Konrad. “Watching him interact with students in our classrooms, hallways and athletic fields quickly demonstrates that he was born to serve others through teaching and coaching.

“He works tirelessly with all of our students at North but has an especially soft place in his heart for our students with special needs. He also makes an impact on our school community outside of the classroom. Brian develops young men through coaching football and assists all of our athletes through his work with our athletic department. Brian Peterson is a wonderful educator who has dedicated himself to shaping young lives. He is truly deserving of this special honor.”

Peterson is also an avid Bears fan. According to his wife, he just received season tickets after being on the waiting list for more than 10 years and about 80 percent of their baby shower gifts were Bears-related.

The Bears Classroom Legends powered by CDW program recognizes teachers each month who go above and beyond their day-to-day jobs. Each Classroom Legend will receive a personalized jersey, custom football, gift bag and $1,000 grant to use for enhancing the learning environment in their classroom.
