The Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT) recently conducted research that highlights this issue, with a focus on students with disabilities and their support system. Findings revealed that teachers of students with disabilities have more conversations on student privacy and responsible technology use than teachers of general education students. Parents of students with disabilities feel more involved by their schools on responsible tech usage and are prepared to teach their students responsible technology usage, than those of students in general education classes.
The Equity Institute, an organization committed to developing and implementing innovative solutions for building more diverse, equitable, and inclusive learning and professional environments, works closely with educators who are in teacher prep programs. Throughout their work, they’ve noticed the lack of preparation for educators to ensure that they are learning responsible tech and data usage.
