In the Spring of 2023, EALA toured three promising schools in San Diego. EALA plans to tour the Midwest region next.

EALA developed the EALA School Study Tours initiative to translate knowledge into practice and build more equitable learning environments and student experiences.

As a part of this initiative, EALA partners with an organization within the EALA network to help identify schools to host tours focused on centering promising practices for students with disabilities and learning differences.

Visiting School Teams tour the host schools, collaborate and learn with key school and community members, and witness implementation whether it be in a classroom or behind the scenes. The tour experience is centered on reflection and the opportunity to bring aspects or strategies back to attendees’ home school or district.

On the reflection day, Tuesday, I was stretched to really think about what I learned that was specific to Educating All Learners and how I am going to implement what I learned. When attending conferences, I usually sit and get and am told what impactful practices I am seeing. I enjoyed that I was able to take in what I saw, that we were asked to reflect, and the protocols with mixed groups really made us think through what was most impactful and how I will use it when I go back to my home school.
