This session focused on the legal obligations of schools in light of school closures due to COVID-19 and their impact on educators of students with disabilities. Since COVID-19 has turned the lives of the majority of the nation’s students and educators upside down, state and federal entities are left with the task of finding solutions to comply with existing laws and determining whether new policies are needed. The NCLD team shared information about existing laws that relate to the education of students with disabilities and review recent guidance by the US Department of Education in light of COVID-19 school closures. The webinar was informational only in keeping with the EALA’s commitment not to take positions on federal, state, or local policies.
