Paul O’Neill on Student Privacy

This session focused on ways that challenges to student privacy are playing out during the COVID-19 crisis. It is not proving to easy to maintain traditional confidentiality protections under FERPA and HIPAA in the sudden shift to online education and in some of the other hastily-assembled practices that many schools and district have switched to on the fly in order to deal with school closures that they did not see coming. We explored the challenges and varied approaches to dealing with them.
